Learn how to draw the Sydney Opera House, one of the world’s most famous and distinctive buildings. Learn how to draw all its shapes in nine simple steps. This landmark art center located Sydney, Australia, has a complex silhouette, to say the least. But given that it is a noted symbol of its city, I thought it deserved a tutorial that made it “drawable” for most elementary students. The shell shapes are simplified as much as possible, without losing their 3D shape, and my sample even shows where you might add a bit of a shadow. It all hopefully adds up to a very recognizable Sydney Opera House, of which there is no other. MATERIALS Drawing paper Black marker Crayons DIRECTIONS Time needed:  1 hour. Learn how to draw a house in the suburbs with stylish windows, attached garage and pretty landscaping. Easy step by step directions will show you how. Need some new ideas for drawing a house? This tutorial starts with a basic house shape, but then adds a pretty entryway for the front door and a garage for the car. Add to that some sidewalks that have a bit of perspective (with angled lines) and you have a the beginnings of a very pretty house drawing. When students get to the coloring stage, encourage them to think of paint colors that have a theme and are pleasing to look at. It’s never too early introduce the world of architectural design, and the concepts that architects must think of when designing a new home. For those that passed through the halls of Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty was the first thing people saw upon arriving. In a perfect world, this a great project to paint, as the green and blue on watercolor paper always make such a nice combination. This sample shows that just coloring her with crayons can make a lovely drawing too. How to draw a shop, which can easily turn into something for pets, candy, toys and more. Whatever your entrepreneur brain can imagine. My experience is that young students, as young as five or six, love to buildings from their surroundings. Adding a very simple awning to a pretend store makes it a little extra special. DIRECTIONS Prep: Print tutorial for each student. Draw guide lines on paper or fold in half to make creases. Students follow the tutorial to draw the shop in pencil. Draw Russian Buildings
