How to Draw a Barn

Learn how to draw a barn with this step by step tutorial. A few key features will help students draw this very classic version.


It only takes a few extra touches to make a barn look like a barn, and not like any other building.

First, the roof needs to have a bend in it. (Maybe so that the snow would slide off easily?). Then the windows need to all be up high to account for all the stacked hay, etc. that is inside. And finally, a bright cross on double doors let everyone know exactly what kind of classic building this is.

I love that the most traditional barns are bright red, as they just make such a colorful drawing. And while this is a 2-D tutorial, you can see in the drawing that drawing two sides of the building adds depth and makes it look more realistic.

DIRECTIONS

Time needed: 45 minutes.

How to Draw a Barn

1.Draw a rectangle.


2.Add the angled roof above.

3.Draw the side of the roof.


4.Add the side wall.

5.Draw the silo to the left.

6.Add windows and barn door.

7.Add decorative shapes: triangles, mushrooms, spots.

8.Add flowers and decorations to the ground.



9.Trace with a marker and color with crayons.

How to Draw LOTS of Cupcakes

Expand on a basic how to draw a cupcake lesson by making MANY of them, adding lots of bright colors, and maybe a shadow or highlight (or both). These cupcakes were drawn on trading card size paper (2.5″ x 3.5″) and placed in a trading card sleeve. The repetition of a theme and cartoon style drawing would also make a great Pop Art lesson. If the color seems extra bright to you, it happens for two reasons. One, is that I used Sharpie markers and two, is that they are colored on fingerpaint paper. The glossy finish makes the colors just pop. The only drawback to the fingerpaint paper is that it is tricky to draw on with a pencil because you can’t erase lines very well. At all, actually.
