How to Draw a Cartoon Ladybug

Learn how to draw a Cartoon Ladybug with with a cute and silly face. This one is made from some pretty simple shapes.




Although this tutorial is more about drawing a make believe version of a ladybug, students can still learn some interesting facts about them as part of the lesson. Here are a few that I found at.

  1. They’re actually lady beetles, not ladybugs.
  2. Not all ladybugs are red with black spots.
  3. Ladybugs consume a lot of pests.
  4. They hibernate in the winter.
  5. Their spots serve as a warning to attackers.
  6. The name “ladybug” is legendary and dates back to the Middle Ages.
  7. They have hidden wings.
  8. Ladybug numbers are declining.

Aside from those tidbits, you may find young students can relate to these amazing insects a bit more if they add a fun face to their ladybug body. This example will help students draw a cartoon version, with big eyes and cute antennae. It’s exactly how many cartoon artists get inspired to create new characters.

MATERIALS

  • Black marker
  • Crayons

DIRECTIONS

Time needed: 1 hour.

How to Draw a Cartoon Bug


1.Draw a large circle for the head.


2.Draw the body to the side.

3.Draw two large eyes.

4.Add the hair line, nose and mouth.

5.Draw two antennae.


6.Add wing line and spots.
7.Draw the belly underneath.



8.Add legs, erase inside, and add grass line.
9.Trace with a marker and color.

How to Draw LOTS of Cupcakes

Expand on a basic how to draw a cupcake lesson by making MANY of them, adding lots of bright colors, and maybe a shadow or highlight (or both). These cupcakes were drawn on trading card size paper (2.5″ x 3.5″) and placed in a trading card sleeve. The repetition of a theme and cartoon style drawing would also make a great Pop Art lesson. If the color seems extra bright to you, it happens for two reasons. One, is that I used Sharpie markers and two, is that they are colored on fingerpaint paper. The glossy finish makes the colors just pop. The only drawback to the fingerpaint paper is that it is tricky to draw on with a pencil because you can’t erase lines very well. At all, actually.
