How to Draw like Paul Klee

This Paul Klee drawing project guides students to make a continuous line drawing that resembles one of his famous paintings, “Arrival of the Bridegroom”.



Make an easy Paul Klee drawing project by following lots of “up” and “down” and “over” directions in my PDF tutorial, which you can download below.

It’s a fun process that asks students to make an abstract drawing of a person out of one straight line, and then adding arms and legs to finish. Guaranteed abstract (and most certainly creative) results!


MATERIALS

  • Premium construction paper or card stock paper*
  • Marker, black, chisel tip
  • Crayola Color Sticks*

DIRECTIONS

Time needed: 1 hour.

How to Draw like Paul Klee

  1. Draw a loop for one eye and go down.
  2. Add a curve to the left and go down to the right.
3.Draw to the left, make loop up and down to the right.


4.Continue to the left, make a loop down to the right.

5.Cross over the center, and go down over the other lines.

6.Continue line up, wiggle left and right, head to the eye.

7.Make loop for left eye and end where the line began.

8.Draw 4 overlapping “L” shapes for arms and legs.
9.Add eyes, mouth and floating circles for hands and hat.

How to Draw LOTS of Cupcakes

Expand on a basic how to draw a cupcake lesson by making MANY of them, adding lots of bright colors, and maybe a shadow or highlight (or both). These cupcakes were drawn on trading card size paper (2.5″ x 3.5″) and placed in a trading card sleeve. The repetition of a theme and cartoon style drawing would also make a great Pop Art lesson. If the color seems extra bright to you, it happens for two reasons. One, is that I used Sharpie markers and two, is that they are colored on fingerpaint paper. The glossy finish makes the colors just pop. The only drawback to the fingerpaint paper is that it is tricky to draw on with a pencil because you can’t erase lines very well. At all, actually.
