How to Draw Candles

Learn how to draw candles with this easy step by step tutorial, and then decorate for whatever holiday you might be celebrating.



Historically, people used candles to light their homes, and travelers used them to light their way. But candles have played a part in celebrations, religious and otherwise, for millennia.

This tutorial for how to draw candles has a Christmas theme, with the holly and red berries, but could easily be altered for other celebrations too. You could change the color of the candles themselves, add different shaped leaves, or leave them out all together — lots of options for all kinds of other occasions.

MATERIALS

  • Drawing paper
  • Black marker
  • Crayons

DIRECTIONS

Time needed: 45 minutes.

How to Draw Candles

1.Draw the large center candle.


2.Add two medium side candles.

3.Draw two more behind the fire.


4.Add wax and flame to the center candle.


5.Erase, add flames to the other side.


6.Draw berries and holly in the center.

7.Add more holly and berries on the side.


8.Erase the candle bottoms as shown.


9.Trace with marker and color.

How to Draw LOTS of Cupcakes

Expand on a basic how to draw a cupcake lesson by making MANY of them, adding lots of bright colors, and maybe a shadow or highlight (or both). These cupcakes were drawn on trading card size paper (2.5″ x 3.5″) and placed in a trading card sleeve. The repetition of a theme and cartoon style drawing would also make a great Pop Art lesson. If the color seems extra bright to you, it happens for two reasons. One, is that I used Sharpie markers and two, is that they are colored on fingerpaint paper. The glossy finish makes the colors just pop. The only drawback to the fingerpaint paper is that it is tricky to draw on with a pencil because you can’t erase lines very well. At all, actually. Therefore I bring it out when drawings are extra simple like these cupcakes. If fact, you might just hide the pencils for this project and have everyone start drawing with a black marker.
