Cartoon Bug Drawing

Bugs don’t always have to be “creepy crawlies”. When you draw them, you can make them as cute as can be! Bugs are a necessary part of our planet and deserve to be displayed as such. This cartoon drawing tutorial shows another way that we can view our multi-legged friends.

Here are two little tips for today’s cartoon bug drawing.

One, is that it’s very easy to make your drawing have a little perspective, simply by altering the sizes of similar things. After you have drawn one bug, try making some bigger and some smaller, possibly at different angles too.

Two, your grass line doesn’t always have to be a straight line. Some yards are hilly, and go up and down, so why not try that simple change once in awhile? Sometimes it’s the little details that make a drawing extra charming.

MATERIALS

  • Crayons

DIRECTIONS

Time needed: 1 hour and 45 minutes.

How to Draw a Cartoon Bug

1.Draw two eyes.

2.Add an antennae and body below.


3.Draw a pair of wings.


4.Draw a smaller bug above.

5.Add an even smaller bug.


6.Add a wavy grass line.


7.Draw flowers in the grass.

8.Add clouds and a sun.
9.Trace with a marker and color.

How to Draw LOTS of Cupcakes

Expand on a basic how to draw a cupcake lesson by making MANY of them, adding lots of bright colors, and maybe a shadow or highlight (or both). These cupcakes were drawn on trading card size paper (2.5″ x 3.5″) and placed in a trading card sleeve. The repetition of a theme and cartoon style drawing would also make a great Pop Art lesson. If the color seems extra bright to you, it happens for two reasons. One, is that I used Sharpie markers and two, is that they are colored on fingerpaint paper. The glossy finish makes the colors just pop. The only drawback to the fingerpaint paper is that it is tricky to draw on with a pencil because you can’t erase lines very well. At all, actually.
