How to Draw a Cartoon Chicken

Learn how to draw a cartoon chicken with a step by step tutorial. Simple shapes sometimes make the funniest faces.



In real life, chickens have lots of tiny, sometimes complex details. The feathers are often ruffled, the eyes and beaks are small with lots of different colors, and the feet are made from scaly-looking skin.

So if your students want to draw a chicken because they like them, or maybe need one to go with a story, why not draw a cartoon version? All of a sudden the familiar shapes are big and round, and more importantly, fun to color. This tutorial is designed to help them do just that.

MATERIALS

  • Drawing paper
  • Black marker
  • Crayons

DIRECTIONS

Time needed: 25 minutes.

How to Draw a Cartoon Chicken

1.Start the chicken bdody.


2.Add a head shape above.

3.Draw a simple comb on top.

4.Erase line and add beak.

5.Draw two simple eyes.

6.Erase line, add wing and tail.

7.Erase line, add feet and barn.


8.Draw a landscape and sky.

9.Trace with marker and color.

How to Draw LOTS of Cupcakes

Expand on a basic how to draw a cupcake lesson by making MANY of them, adding lots of bright colors, and maybe a shadow or highlight (or both). These cupcakes were drawn on trading card size paper (2.5″ x 3.5″) and placed in a trading card sleeve. The repetition of a theme and cartoon style drawing would also make a great Pop Art lesson. If the color seems extra bright to you, it happens for two reasons. One, is that I used Sharpie markers and two, is that they are colored on fingerpaint paper. The glossy finish makes the colors just pop. The only drawback to the fingerpaint paper is that it is tricky to draw on with a pencil because you can’t erase lines very well. At all, actually.
