A vampire bat may sound kind of scary, but if you give him the cartoon treatment, it’s another story. A big head, and even bigger smile, makes him almost cute! And definitely not scary.

This easy vampire bat tutorial makes use of simple body shapes that are great symmetrical drawing practice for younger elementary students. It’s best to conquer simple symmetry before trying more complicated ones.

MATERIALS

  • Drawing paper
  • Black marker
  • Crayons

DIRECTIONS

Time needed: 30 minutes.

How to Draw a Vampire Bat

1.Draw a head shape.

2.Add a large mouth inside.


3.Draw two teeth and tongue.


4.Add two laughing eyes and ear lines.


5.Draw a round body below the head.



6.Add two symmetrical wings.

7.Draw two small feet underneath.

8.Finish with a background sky and moon.


9.Trace with marker and color.

How to Draw LOTS of Cupcakes

Expand on a basic how to draw a cupcake lesson by making MANY of them, adding lots of bright colors, and maybe a shadow or highlight (or both). These cupcakes were drawn on trading card size paper (2.5″ x 3.5″) and placed in a trading card sleeve. The repetition of a theme and cartoon style drawing would also make a great Pop Art lesson. If the color seems extra bright to you, it happens for two reasons. One, is that I used Sharpie markers and two, is that they are colored on fingerpaint paper. The glossy finish makes the colors just pop. The only drawback to the fingerpaint paper is that it is tricky to draw on with a pencil because you can’t erase lines very well. At all, actually.
