How to Draw a Minion

Learn step by step how to draw a Minion from the Despicable Me movies, with all his silly and goofy details.

Instead of providing coloring pages of your student’s favorite cartoons, why not have them make their own? Even very simple projects, like this Minion, will give them some good drawing practice.

And once students feel comfortable drawing this guy as shown here, they can make more versions with different poses, and doing different things. Every cartoon artist started somewhere.

  • Drawing paper
  • Black marker
  • Crayons

DIRECTIONS

Time needed: 1 hour.

How to Draw a Minion

1.Draw two touching circles.

2.Draw the top of the body.


3.Draw the bottom of the body.


4.Add glasses and hair.


5.Draw the mouth and start the overalls.


6.Finish the bib and straps.

7.Start two arms.


8.Add gloves and feet. Draw a grassy background.


9.Trace with a marker and color.

How to Draw LOTS of Cupcakes

Expand on a basic how to draw a cupcake lesson by making MANY of them, adding lots of bright colors, and maybe a shadow or highlight (or both). These cupcakes were drawn on trading card size paper (2.5″ x 3.5″) and placed in a trading card sleeve. The repetition of a theme and cartoon style drawing would also make a great Pop Art lesson. If the color seems extra bright to you, it happens for two reasons. One, is that I used Sharpie markers and two, is that they are colored on fingerpaint paper. The glossy finish makes the colors just pop. The only drawback to the fingerpaint paper is that it is tricky to draw on with a pencil because you can’t erase lines very well. At all, actually. Therefore I bring it out when drawings are extra simple like these cupcakes. If fact, you might just hide the pencils for this project and have everyone start drawing with a black marker.
