How to Draw Supergirl

Learn how to draw Supergirl and her flowing red cape. The girl behind the mask and costume can be whoever you want her to be.



There are apparently several Supergirl characters that have appeared before in American comic books. I’m not sure if they all have their own look, but apparently the name is pretty popular. That’s no surprise, Supergirl kind of says it all.

This tutorial is meant to help young students draw a costume that looks Supergirl-ish, but in an easy and approachable way. It has the simple mask, gloves and boots, with a slightly flowy cape behind. The hair could, of course, be adjusted to look like their own or someone else.

Note: To keep the fierce look of the eyes, encourage students to keep them simple with a straight line on top. It’s the way cartoon artists eyes so they have a fierce and don’t-mess-with-me look.

MATERIALS

  • Drawing paper
  • Black marker
  • Crayons

DIRECTIONS

Time needed: 45 minutes.

How to Draw Supergirl

1.Draw a belt and top.

2.Add a collar, neck and chin.

3.Draw the mask and face.


4.Add the arm and gloves.


5.Erase lines and draw the legs.


6.Add a cape in the background.

7.Finish with her long hair.


8.Add a city skyline.


9.Trace with marker and color.

How to Draw LOTS of Cupcakes

Expand on a basic how to draw a cupcake lesson by making MANY of them, adding lots of bright colors, and maybe a shadow or highlight (or both). These cupcakes were drawn on trading card size paper (2.5″ x 3.5″) and placed in a trading card sleeve. The repetition of a theme and cartoon style drawing would also make a great Pop Art lesson. If the color seems extra bright to you, it happens for two reasons. One, is that I used Sharpie markers and two, is that they are colored on fingerpaint paper. The glossy finish makes the colors just pop. The only drawback to the fingerpaint paper is that it is tricky to draw on with a pencil because you can’t erase lines very well. At all, actually.
