How to Draw Tweety Bird

When you need something cute and sweet for a Valentine card, it’s time to learn how to draw Tweety Bird. The messages will just kind of write themselves.


Tweety (also known as Tweety Pie and Tweety Bird) is a yellow canary in the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series. He made his first appearance in 1942 in “A Tale of Two Kitties”, directed by Bob Clampett, but was not paired with Sylvester The Cat until five years later. The 1947 cartoon “Tweetie Pie” pitted them against each other for the first time. The cartoon, which won an Academy Award, was the start of many short cartoons to come.

This Tweety tutorial is perfect for young artists as he is made from some very symmetrical simple shapes that are easy to draw. The oversized head is also a good lesson about proportion, as animals with large heads will always have a cute baby-like quality to them.


MATERIALS

  • Drawing paper
  • Black marker
  • Crayons

DIRECTIONS

Time needed: 1 hour.

How to Draw Tweety Bird

1.Make guidelines. Draw a beak.


2.Add two large eyes.

3.Draw the head, add the eyebrows.


4.Draw a belly below.


5.Connect the belly to the head with arms.


6.Draw two large feet.

7.Add final details, and a heart.

8.Draw a background.

9.Trace and color carefully.

How to Draw LOTS of Cupcakes

Expand on a basic how to draw a cupcake lesson by making MANY of them, adding lots of bright colors, and maybe a shadow or highlight (or both). These cupcakes were drawn on trading card size paper (2.5″ x 3.5″) and placed in a trading card sleeve. The repetition of a theme and cartoon style drawing would also make a great Pop Art lesson. If the color seems extra bright to you, it happens for two reasons. One, is that I used Sharpie markers and two, is that they are colored on fingerpaint paper. The glossy finish makes the colors just pop. The only drawback to the fingerpaint paper is that it is tricky to draw on with a pencil because you can’t erase lines very well. At all, actually.
