How to Draw a Windmill

Learn how to draw a Windmill, the old fashioned kind still found in Denmark. Many artists have been fascinated with their look over the years.



To learn more about the history of windmills, you can go look back to a man named Poul la Cour who grew up on a farm in Djursland, Denmark in the 1850s. He is noted for his early work on wind power which laid the foundation for modern windmill technology and wind power plants found today.

The old fashioned buildings, many of which can still be seen in Denmark, still have a fascinating look which artists have been drawing a painting for hundreds of years. They must have looked pretty modern to them, at one point in time.

MATERIALS

  • Drawing paper
  • Black marker
  • Crayons

DIRECTIONS

Time needed: 45 minutes.

How to Draw a Windmill

1.Draw the top dome.


2.Add the curved sides below.

3.Fill sides with windows, door.


4.Draw center circle and large X.


5.Add panel attached to each.


6.Fill the panels with grid lines.


7.Draw background landscaping.


9.Fill foreground with flowers.

10.Trace with marker and color.
